My Solstice prints are a highly detailed design with an amber colour used on a black background. Solstice is the Latin name of "Sun" and the summer solstice marks the longest day in the year, the winter solstice being the shortest. Solstice is made from fine lines forming squares which, when grouped and rotated create the prints major geometric pattern. Transparent black circles are overlaid on this pattern to create an eclipse like visual effect representing the sun's movement from both its highest and lowest points in the sky. A solstice is when the sun is at its most northerly and southerly points relative to the celestial equator. Two solstices occur annually and the seasons are determined/referenced by both the solstices and the equinoxes. The first day of summer is not always the summer solstice. In the southern hemisphere the solstices are reversed & the solstice dates can change from year to year.
